KZN Drakensberg is a dream destination Teboho Masakala Kwazulu Natal has a lot of out door adventure activities, fun and games that South Africans can explore. The South African Tourism and KZN Tourism hosted members of the media from various provinces for a media tour as part of their activities in the run up to World Tourism Month and World Tourism Day to be held in Durban. The media tour was held from 22-25 August in the Kwazulu-Natal Drakensberg.  Drakensberg translated means Mountain of Dragons. The Drakensberg stretches for over 1,000 kilometres from the Eastern Cape Province, then successively forms, in order from south to north, the border between Lesotho and the Eastern Cape and the border between Lesotho and KwaZulu-Natal. World Tourism month kicks-off

World Tourism month kicks-off by Teboho Masakala Tourism Minister Mamoloko Kubayi kicked off the World Tourism Month media launch as part of preparations for the World Tourism Month which is held in September, and Tourism Day to be held on 27 September in Durban. The Media launch was held at the Drakensberg Sun in Kwazulu Natal on 23 August. The Tourism Minister said it important that aggressive marketing is done to target every South African young and old. Kubayi added that South Africans need to explore their country and travel within the borders of the country and as such travelling and tourism packages should be inclusive of all income-earners and not only high income-earners. One of the issue’s worrying the minister is the rampant crime in South Africa, as it scares away tourists. To curb this challenge she has had talks with Police Minister Bheki Cele to find ways to fight crime targeting the tourism sector in order not to chase away...

Be a tourist in your own country! Teboho Masakala As part of the Lilizela 2019 Awards Media launch, the Gauteng Tourism Authority in partnership with South African Tourism held the Lilizela Awards Media Tour (12-13 August) where the media got to experience the rich heritage of Gauteng and the hospitality the tourism sector has to offer. The first stop was a tour around Johannesburg and it’s history with tour guide Anthony Paton briefing the media about the origin of Johannesburg. The world famous heritage site of Maropeng known as the Cradle of Humankind was the next stop. It was here at Maropeng where Botshabelo’s Pesa Pheko won Tour Guide of the year award twice, in 2008 and 2009. Maropeng is approximately 90 minutes’ drive from the Johannesburg CBD, offering visitors the opportunity to learn about stones and bones, while wining and dining in tranquil surroundings. Tourism Awards set for November

Tourism Awards set for November Teboho Masakala The 2019 edition of the Lilizela Tourism Awards are set to be held on 9 November at Sun Arena in Pretoria. The awards media launch was held on 14 August at Sun Arena’s The Maslow Hotel in Pretoria, next to the Sun Arena where the main awards will be held. Darryl Erasmus, the Chief Quality Assurance Officer of SA Tourism said they are excited to once again hold the awards which keep growing each year. This year over 1000 entries have been received countrywide. Throughout the month of September every province will hold their provincial finals with winners from the provinces representing their provinces at the national finals. Erasmus added that the awards are in their 7 th  year and they continue to award excellence in the tourism sector and showcase what South Africa has to offer in terms of tourism and hospitality. KZN Tourism encourages Township Tourism Teboho Masakala Kwazulu Natal Natal Tourism (KZN-Tourism) hosted members of both national and local media on 2 April to tour and explore what KZN has to offer in terms of local tourism. Members of the media visited tourist attractions in the townships of Durban which are rich in history. History that has played a major role in the emancipation of South Africans from Apartheid. Hosted Media included Mangaung Issue from Bloemfontein, The City Press, Sowetan, Mpumalanga News, Pietermaritzburg News and Rising Sun. The first stop was Mahatma Gandhi’s house in Phoenix, Durban where the role Gandhi played in fighting for human rights and the community is outlined in detail. Gandhi lived in the house for 21 years. It was rebuilt in 2006 after being burnt during the 1985 Inanda Riots. Gandhi was an activist, lawyer and politician. The next stop was a visit to John Langa Dube’s Monument and house. John L. Durban to host Africa Travel Indaba By Teboho Masakala Durban will once again host the Africa Travel Indaba which is set to be held from 2-4 May at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Conference Centre (known as Durban ICC). The media launch was held on 3 April at Planet Avenue in Durban. The Indaba is held by SA Tourism in partnership with Tourism-KZN. The Indaba promotes African products and services. It is where African exhibitors and international buyers meet to buy African products and network. Last year 1000 exhibitors from 19 African states took part in the Indaba and international buyers from the United States of America, Australia, Belgium and other parts of the world descended on Ethekwini (as Durban is dubbed). International media also formed part of the Indaba. South Africa's rich history also attracts tourists to our shores, however it is important that South African citizens take a "shot left" and tour their own country.  The “Its your Country, Enjoy it” campaign by SA Tourism is aimed at encouraging South African’s to be tourists in their own provinces, cities and country and to tour and experience the hidden treasures South Africa has to offer. SA Tourism partnered with Metro FM on their 'Heatwaves' national music shows to engage with those attending the show and give them first hand info about South Africa. The set up of stalls makes it easy for people to get first hand info about South Africa in general as well as its tourism attractions, especially focusing on so-called small places.
