The 2019 edition of the Lilizela Tourism Awards are set to be held on 9 November at Sun Arena in Pretoria. The awards media launch was held on 14 August at Sun Arena’s The Maslow Hotel in Pretoria, next to the Sun Arena where the main awards will be held.
Darryl Erasmus, the Chief Quality Assurance Officer of SA Tourism said they are excited to once again hold the awards which keep growing each year. This year over 1000 entries have been received countrywide. Throughout the month of September every province will hold their provincial finals with winners from the provinces representing their provinces at the national finals.
Erasmus added that the awards are in their 7th year and they continue to award excellence in the tourism sector and showcase what South Africa has to offer in terms of tourism and hospitality. Finalists will compete in 14 categories this year.

Rebecca Khambule, one of the judges of this year’s awards said they judge according to product presentation, compliance (tax and regulation), innovation and the value that the business adds to the community.
Khambule added that they also consider the number of jobs the establishment is able to create whether temporary or permanent. The feedback that establishments get from clients is very important and is included as part of the judging process.
Previous winner Ivan Dinkelman, the CEO of Lanseria Country Estate encourages people in the hospitality sector to enter awards as they not only reward excellence in the tourism and hospitality sector but also open up opportunities to network and grow the sector.
The Free State leg of the awards will also be held in September.
