KZN Drakensberg is a dream destination

KZN Drakensberg is a dream destination

Kwazulu Natal has a lot of out door adventure activities, fun and games that South Africans can explore. The South African Tourism and KZN Tourism hosted members of the media from various provinces for a media tour as part of their activities in the run up to World Tourism Month and World Tourism Day to be held in Durban.

The media tour was held from 22-25 August in the Kwazulu-Natal Drakensberg.  Drakensberg translated means Mountain of Dragons.

The Drakensberg stretches for over 1,000 kilometres from the Eastern Cape Province, then successively forms, in order from south to north, the border between Lesotho and the Eastern Cape and the border between Lesotho and KwaZulu-Natal. Thereafter it forms the border between KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State, and next the border between KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga Province (Wikipedia).

The Drakensberg which about a 4 hour drive from Bloemfontein, offers a great variety of accommodation to suite every taste including Alpine Heath Resort, The Cavern and Drakensberg Sun that not only offer accommodation but tours around heritage sites in the area.

If you are into adventure activities like paint ball, scooter riding, ziplining, horse riding and king swinging are worth a try. Not only does this give you peace of mind and distract you from work pressure but it showcases the hidden gems South Africa and specifically the Drakensberg can offer. The Drakensberg mountains also offer a host of hiking opportunities from short walks to epic hiking trails.

If good food is your thing, there are also great restaurants dotted throughout the Drakensberg tourist routes. The Drakensberg Brewery is a hit with tourists as it is the only privately owned brewery in the area offering its own brand of beer.  Cathedral Peak Wine Estate which produces wines is also one of the hidden gems that offer a different kind of experience with their proudly South African made wines.

Through adventure activities jobs are created, as the guides, who are well trained, make sure that your safety is their priority.

The Drakensberg is definitely a place worth visiting. The picturesque mountains are breathtakingly beautiful and ideal for those who love wild life, the outdoors and photography.
