The best in the tourism and hospitality sector in the Free State were awarded during the provincial leg of the 2019 Lilizela Tourism Awards which were held on 26 September at Imvelo Safari Lodge in Bloemfontein.
In his keynote address, the MEC for DESTEA (responsible for tourism in Free State) Makalo Mohale said tourism contributes meaningfully to the economy of the province and needs to be given the attention it deserves. He pointed out that those in the sector need to be acknowledged and recognised.
“As government, in order to improve product offering and stakeholder engagement in the province, we have called all role players to a tourism round table colloquium. The main aim with this initiative is to improve both communication, coordination and alignment between the private sector and government. People who visit our province should experience hospitality, professionalism and value for money,” said Mohale in his keynote address.
Winners were awarded in categories such as Best Conference Centre, Best Guest House/ Hotel, Best Lodge and Action and Adventure amongst others. The winners will represent the Free State on 9 November in Pretoria at the national awards.
